Project Description

Nearman Water Treatment Plant

The Kansas City Board of Public Utilities (BPU) serves 51,000 water customers in a service area of more than 150 square miles across Kansas City, Kansas, Edwardsville, southern Leavenworth County, parts of Bonner Springs and a small section of Johnson County.

The state-of-the-art water system includes a water treatment facility at Nearman, four pump stations, 1,004 miles of water pipes, and the nation’s two largest horizontal collector wells that gather water from deep below the Missouri River. The collectors are capable of bringing in 54 million gallons per day of raw water from a 135 feet deep underground aquifer.

AOG provided the field inspections of soil, aggregates, and concrete for the Nearman Treatment Water facility project and also provided field and lab testing services in 2016 during the upgrades and addition of a four-million gallon in-ground reservoir tank to improve storage capacity. The upgrades were awarded a Platinum Award for Utility Excellence by the Association of Metropolitan Water Agencies.
