Function & Feasibility

While load directly affects foundation performance, soil quality becomes even more contentious for water management systems. Subprime land positioning along with water flow impediments from KC aquifers and local soil permeability, compromises bearing capacity and readily promotes differential settling. While avoidance may be full proof, using foundational depth to achieve durability is often feasibly prohibitive. AOG empowers function through ground improvement and refinement of more traditional shallow techniques like adaptive Geogrid solutions to achieve function AND feasibility.

PROJECTS:

Nearman Water Treatment Plant, Kansas City, Kansas:  KCK Board of Public Utilities installed a new 4 million gallon in-ground storage tank to improve storage capacity by 33{5ce5ad0294dd9008fa82c206b32ee36d38eb20332d862fbe3d9f36af56451116} – 34 million gallons daily to 54 million gallons – in compliance with plant design standards.  AOG provided inspections of soil, aggregates and concrete throughout the project.

City of Smithville Water Storage Facility, Smithville, Missouri: To increase water capacity and renovate outdated pumping equipment, Smithville committed to a 750,000 gallon tank installation.   AOG was an integral part of the design team, providing geotechnical assistance with site selection as well as structural planning. Continuing through construction, AOG was also on-site for field observation during removal and replacement of engineered fills, along with building inspections and laboratory and material testing support.

City of Atchison Water Storage Facility, Atchison, Kansas: Similar to Smithville’s water expansion efforts, Atchison sought to contend with renovation needs by implementing Natgun slip-form storage tanks – smaller volume tanks that collectively comprise high volume storage capacity. AOG’s long- standing experience with Natgun, secured Smithville’s confidence in AOG’s comprehensive geotechnical drilling, engineering and field related testing and inspection services. AOG provided on-site soil verification, installation and compaction of engineered fills, along with steel reinforcement inspections and concrete material testing.
