The 16,000-capacity Morton Amphitheater dominates the landscape on a 165-acre site protected by the Missouri River levee system.

This sweeping construction achievement features an innovative “earth-retained” auditorium bowl, where seating and acoustic profiles are integrated directly into the landscape. This design required the importation of over 360,000 cubic yards of soil and necessitated rigorous geotechnical oversight to ensure long-term soil stability and complex drainage management.

Given the site’s location within a complex floodplain, Alpha-Omega Geotech was selected to provide essential construction materials testing and special inspections. Utilizing our premier in-house soil and concrete testing laboratory, our team served as the critical technical link between design and execution.

While GeoEngineers provided the foundational design and subsurface investigations, AOG performed the on-site verification. Our scope included monitoring the compaction of massive soil imports, performing concrete testing for the stage and primary structures, and ensuring all fill met the stringent specifications mandated by the city and the local levee district.
